Tag Rugby Blitz a success!
A great big thanks to all those who supported the tag rugby blitz on Saturday 30th January! The general consensus was that a good fun day was had by all, and we raised a substantial sum for the Galway Cycle and NBCRI.
In total, 9 teams attended the blitz (of VERY varying tag skill levels), and the campus pitches were a buzz of activity as over 90 people competed for the amazing trophy on the day! Despite the cold hands, few balls were dropped, and games were played right through from 1pm to 4pm, ending in a grand final between "The young bulls" and "Your sexton's on fire". After some dazzling displays of tag prowess, and a nail-biting final, The "Sexton's" came away victorious, taking home a coveted cup, and a few beverages!
The presentation and after party in Brady's Bar maynooth proved to be good fun, and we'd like to give a special thanks to the staff in Brady's who provided finger food and an area for presentation for the evening!
If you'd like to see some video footage from the day, we had Conor Galvin, who is the Bulmers Pro-fan of the Year there with his blogging skills and camera man. You can see his thoughts and videos on the day right here!
See you at the next fundraiser, the soccer tournament - details can be found below, or here!
Open Meeting for Cycle Registration on 9th February!

The first open meeting will be held on Tuesday 9th February in JH1 at 7.00pm. At this meeting there will be have sponsorship cards available, we will running through up-coming fun/fund-raising events where we will be looking for your assistance and we will have speakers from the charity and support crew to tell us about the Galway Cycle weekend itself and what to expect if you are going as either a collector or a cyclist.
Please show the face at this meeting as it will give you a chance to meet some of the guys and girls you will be sharing the weekend with. Registration opens on Tuesday 9th February and closes Sunday 28th February.
Details will follow on the day but you will be able to do this through the Galway Cycle website www.galwaycycle.ie by following the links or on Tuesday night itself. We will be seeking €40 (you shall receive this back in your sponsorship if you wish) from everyone that wishes to register as this will cover costs for anybody that does not show up on the weekend of the event. We would ask that you register as soon as you can as we will need to know final numbers for accommodation, food, jerseys and hoodies.
Soccer Blitz Staunton Shield
The STAUNTON SHIELD is back! We will be hosting the 7-a-side football tournament on Saturday 20th February at 11.30am (NON six-nations day for all those sport fanatics worried about missing a decisive Irish try) on the all weather pitches on the North Campus of NUI Maynooth. The cost of entry for a squad of 10 is €80 before February 14th and €100 thereafter and up to the event on the day.
Teams must register by emailing soccer@galwaycycle.ie. Sean Kelleher, Kevin Sweeney and myself will be looking after this event so if you require anymore information, feel free to contact us. Prizes on the day will include the most coveted Staunton Shield (of course), pride, cupla buideal beoir (for the over eighteens) and cupla cupan Mi-Wadi (for the under eighteens).
We hope to see you all there!

Tag Rugby Blitz Details
We're all set for the first ever Galway Cycle Tag Rugby Blitz on Saturday 30th January!
Hope you've all been training hard and are set for a great day out. If not, I hope you're ready for the 1 hour "intro-to-tag" session at 12pm! All gear will be available on the day (10 euro deposit for official tag shorts!), so all you need is yourself!
There's rumours of a camera crew, a prize for the best team haka, and multiple spot prizes on the day, along with a great after party from 8pm in Brady's Bar, Maynooth, who are kindly providing finger food for all participants!
For the pre-registered teams, cost is €80, for the unregistered €100, and if you are coming to just join in - €10 a head, all proceeds for the NBCRI of course.
For the full blitz details - have a look HERE!

If you can't make the tag, do your best to get down to Brady's for the night out, it promises to be a good one!
