Welcome to the Galway Cycle - 23/24/25th of March 2012
On the last Friday every March at NUIM Student’s Union, 110 cyclists mount their bikes heading for Eyre Square Galway. Another 100 volunteers follow them. Last year, they raised over €83,500 for Pieta House, they collected money along the way, they busked, they enjoyed two manic party nights and then returned (including the poor unfortunates who chose to cycle home – a sizeable number in fact!).
Over the past 24 years over €726,000 has been raised for a number of charities. It started out as a group of Maynooth students who wished to make a difference. It continues to do so. This year’s charity is Down Syndrome Ireland. They hope to use the money raised by our efforts to roll out an early development program across the country which has already been piloted successfully in Kildare. So make a difference and get involved as a cyclist or (more importantly) as a collector!
